| Hostavin VSU powder is an UV absorber based on oxalanilide for solventborne / solventless paints and highly transparent plastics. Hostavin VSU powder is characterized by its absolute colorlessness. It is recommended for all coatings and plastics, where discoloration must be avoided, e.g. interaction with metal ions or decomposition of the absorber.
Since Hostavin VSU powder is a strong UV-B absorber, it is especially suitable in UV curing and for a broad range of engineering resins and any resin with spectral sensitivity against UV-B. It can simply be stirred directly into the paint batch. For plastics it can be introduced to the systems in various ways, such as pre-mixing, direct dosage to the compounding or whilst processing in masterbatch form. Depending on the requested stabilization effect, the addition rate should be in the range of 1.0 to 3.0 % for coatings, or 0.1 to 0.7 % for plastics. All concentrations relate to UV stabilizer on solid resin. Pre-trials, covering various concentrations, are highly recommended.
Besides UV absorbers an effective stabilization often requires a radical scavenger. For solventborne paints we recommend Hostavin 3053 liq., Hostavin 3055 liq., Hostavin 3065 liq. or Hostavin 3070 powder. In many plastics the use of Hostavin N 30 along with Hostavin VSU revealed extremely good weather fastness. |
